Why see Come From Away?

The Remarkable True Story - On Tour!

Come From Away: the touching musical celebrating the strength of human compassion is back to inspire audiences in the West End. Created by Canadian husband and wife team Irene Snakoff and David Hein, the rippling impact of 9/11 across the world is felt in a Newfoundland town, when no less than 38 transatlantic flights are ordered to land.

Mirroring the success of the show's Broadway run, Come From Away opened to glowing reviews in the West End, going on to scoop no less than four 2019 Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical. Thoroughly researched and based on interviews with residents and passengers, the show explores how this tiny community opened its hearts and homes to its unexpected guests.  Set to a folk-inspired score played by an on-stage band, discover the incredible multi-Olivier Award-winning musical for yourself when it takes to the road on tour!

What Is Come From Away About?

Based on a true story, Come From Away follows the events of September 11th, 2001, when, far away from New York, 38 transatlantic flights are grounded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland. With the US airspace closed, 7000 people emerge from the planes into a surreal scene, and despite almost doubling the town's population, are welcomed with open hearts, minds and arms.

Although the horrors of that day are all too familiar, this is a story of hope told from the perspective of a handful of passengers and Gander residents, who wholeheartedly welcomed the stranded travellers into their homes - and into their lives. Among the characters are American Airlines' first female pilot, a gay couple called Kevin, and an Egyptian chef, who fears a frosty reception from the community - only to be proved entirely wrong. Weaving together their storylines, the show creates an affirming portrait of human connection in the most trying of circumstances.

A Stunning Triumph

As the events of 9/11 united us all in heartbreak and fear, so too does Come From Away, scraping away layers of that unforgettable day and showing us the little-known story of Gander, a small town in Newfoundland.

Amazing

We booked tickets because everyone said how good the show is. We knew the basic story but not any of the songs or music. It is amazing. The characters feel so real and the music is excellent. We laughed and we cried. The show is so uplifting but also deep and meaningful. We want to watch it all over again. ... Read more

Small-town Canada explained in 1 hr 45 minutes

Okay, I am a Canadian, but this is really how it is! You will probably remember where you were on 9-11 when the Twin Towers in NYC were hit, but did you know what happened to all those planes in the air that got diverted to a small town in Newfoundland, Canada? This musical is a powerful example of the fear and good in mankind. You will NOT be disappointed in this superb production. One line stands out to me: "Because you would do it for me". ... Read more
